HEART IN THE MOUNTAINS  | Black and White Cowgirl Series on Satin

My black and white series featuring original quotes painted with watercolor on satin material. I incorporate my original text into my work, for me the Lazy Cowgirl represents a sense of freedom and a desire to surround herself with those who wish to see her thrive and values beautiful places to nurture her soul. I write these mantras of the envisioned life I wish to live and hope they resonate with you.

I created this piece, Heart in the Mountains, in Aspen for a live painting during my residency with The Mollie Hotel. I wanted to capture the vast sense of exploration I am filled with when I am surrounded by the landscapes out west. The original quote reads, “I am forever inspired by landscapes out west with my head in the clouds and my heart in the mountains. Life feels expansive.”  There is a romance in the mountains, a longing for a new horizon to bring you hope. The west will pull on your heart strings…

Artistic Process
Each painting is meticulously hand-painted on stretched satin. This medium requires precision and confidence, as the unforgiving nature of watercolor on satin means that with each brushstroke I must be deliberate and intentional as I write each word. I find words to breathe life into existence and I hope you resonate with the text from this series.

This series explores contemporary ideas of western heritage and landscapes out west through a poetic lens.
